About Nascent Magazine

A platform for becoming.

Nascent Magazine is a student-run undergraduate psychology magazine, built on the idea that the process of becoming a thinker deserves a real platform, not just a training ground nobody publishes until it’s “ready.” No institutional backing, no budget, no shortage of conviction.

Why we began

We started Nascent because undergraduate psychology writing is amateur, genuinely, in the literal sense. Early, unpolished, still learning what it’s trying to say. That’s not a criticism. It’s just where it is. What was missing wasn’t a claim that undergrad work belongs on the same shelf as a master’s thesis or a peer-reviewed paper. It was a platform for the process itself, the actual, visible work of a mind learning to think psychologically, before that process is finished.

Psychology as a discipline is still arguing with itself, still revising its own assumptions, still, in the truest sense, nascent. Undergraduate work, tentative and still finding its footing, isn’t separate from that. It’s an early, honest version of the same thing the whole field is doing at a different scale.

We publish essays, features, editorials, creative writing, and multimedia, anything genuinely engaging with psychology and its interdisciplinary edges: mental health, cognition, human behavior, and beyond. What makes something Nascent-worthy isn’t technical sophistication. It’s curiosity that goes somewhere.

Every submission goes through two reviewers before any decision is made, never a single person’s judgment, never a black box. Every substantive edit goes back to the author for confirmation before anything is finalized. Nobody should be surprised by the difference between what they submitted and what gets published under their name.

Nascent Magazine publishes biannually, with standalone articles published on a rolling basis between issues.

Right now, Nascent is one person and an idea that refused to stay small. Our team will grow in time, with editors, designers, communicators, writers, and artists.
